Mooring Shackles & Thimbles
Mooring thimbles and shackles are essential features of Single Point Mooring and Conventional Buoy Mooring systems. Over time Offspring International has optimised both components to ensure long service life.
Made of steel, Offspring International’s mooring thimble is a U-shaped component that accommodates the mooring hawser. The mooring thimble’s purpose is to protect the synthetic fibre rope from sharp edges and prevent abrasion due to friction. One end of the thimble is attached to the SPM buoy via heavy duty shackles, while the other end is connected to the vessel via chafe chain.

This ensures a secure and safe connection, preventing damage to the mooring line and facilitating smoother offloading operations.
The SPM hawser’s heavy duty hawser shackles are used to connect the hawser to the mooring bridle assembly on the buoy. Offspring shackles are designed to be strong enough to bear the weight and tension of the hawser while ensuring the safety and stability of the moored vessels.
The shackles are made of corrosion-resistant steel to withstand harsh marine environments.
Mooring Thimbles
- 11”-24” circumference rope
- Made of cast steel, the thimble connects by pin or body and has to be encapsulated. The thimble is factory fitted to ensure the best fit.
Tubular Hawser Thimble
- 12”-24” circumference rope
- Made of steel, the thimble only accepts the shackle pin. The thimble is factory fitted to ensure the best fit.
Bellmouth Hawser Thimble
- 10”-12”, 15”-16”, 18”-21” circumference rope
- Made of steel, the thimble only accepts the shackle pin.
Mooring Shackles
- 60-130T (Conventional range) and 200-250T (OCIMF range) Working Load Limit (WLL) in sizes to fit the mooring hawser or chafe chain.
